Freyja at penzance

I have heard from Freyja. She is now at Penzance awaiting a hole in the weather to make the planned trip to the Scilly Isles. The skipper is Alan Dransfield with Crew David Bedborough, Mike Marshall, Asim Choudry, Paul Hemolle and John Cranwell-Ward.

Freyja Contacted me again on Friday 20th August they are still holed up in Penzance and report the weather is foul, with a westerly wind of F5 to F7.

The picture shows Freyja in the sunshine at Penzance.

Friday 20th August

Alan Dransfield contacted me to say that they have abandoned their plans to go to the Scilly Isles and hope to get out of Penzance today and start the journey eastwards as they have lost too much time to make it viable to west to the Scillies first.

The picture shows a grey Penzance in the rain.

Helford

Freyja is now in Helford River after a very nasty rough passage from Penzance in a SSW F5 in grey overcast conditions.

Sunday 22 August

After a pleasant morning in Helford Freyja continued on to Falmouth in a gentle F1 to 2. At the time of the report on Sunday at 18.00 the rain had started again and there were gales forecast for overnight.

The picture shows the Black Rock isolated danger mark just off Pendennis Point at the entrance to the River Fal.

Fowey1

Freyja’s crew dined at Rick Stein’s fish and chip place in Falmouth. On Monday they had a very good sail to Fowey in a F5/6 WNW with a moderate sea.

Tuesday they plan to reach Plymouth to sit out the forecast gale.

Tuesday 24th August

Freyja had a good sail to Plymouth with the weather much the same as on Monday. They hope to make it to Salcombe on Wednesday. Fingers crossed that the weather is improving.

Wednesday 25th August

Freyja spent the day in Plymouth. I t rained and rained with a F6 wind! It has now turned foggy.

Friday 27th August

Today Freyja traveled back to Plymouth for a crew change. To quote David Bedborough ‘Well shiver my timbers! A good sail, NNE F3/4 and something strange has appeared in the sky!’

The picture shows from left to right Mike Marshall, John Cranwell-Ward and Alan Dransfield enjoying the sail back to Plymouth.
